First few days in HK

Hong Kong has been great. So far we have spent most of our time in Discovery Bay (on Lantau Island) where we are temporarily living. Yesterday we went to dinner at the home of friends on the island of Peng Chau. And today we made our first trek into Central (what downtown Hong Kong, on the island of Hong Kong, is referred to). It was busy and hectic, but that was to be expected. It’s relatively quiet in Discovery Bay. Tomorrow we are...

Traveling to HK

On June 5th, we flew from Honolulu to Seoul, Korea, and then on to Hong Kong after a brief layover. The kids did amazingly well. They didn’t sleep much until the last 2 hours of the flight, so when we arrived in Hong Kong at 10 pm on June 6th, they were ready to sleep. Arriving late without much sleep really helped with adjusting to the time zone change–we really haven’t experienced much jet lag. Here are some pics. 1 &...

The Rest of Hawaii

Here are some other fun things we did in Hawaii (pics below). Swam at Keikis Beach, Waimea Beach, and the beach right next to Uncle Corey and Aunt Bridgette’s house, ate at Mackey’s shrimp truck, Matsumoto’s shaved ice, and Opal’s Thai restaurant (best Thai ever, and the experience was as great as the food). And a great visit to the Laie LDS Temple. Hawaii was great and it was great to see Corey, Bridgette, and Jensen...

Hawaii Day 1

Today we got up and went to Paradise Cove in Ko Olina for several hours. It was beautiful! We got to swim with sea turtles and I snorkeled for the first time–it was way cooler than I imagined. And the kids absolutely loved the beach. At some point, James said something to the effect of “Mom, I don’t ever want to leave Hawaii”, which is just what the kids said when we were in California. Later Josh asked James,...

On Our Way to HK with 2 Fun stops on the way

It was so sad leaving our family, friends, and our home (Draper) since the kids were born. But all went smoothly. We were in California from May 25th until yesterday. We stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Steimle and had a great time. We enjoyed our visits with Uncle Walter and Aunt April, Aunt Shirley and Uncle Gary, and Aunt LoRene. On Tuesday, we went to Disneyland (the first time Magdalena and James have been). James had a brief rendezvous in...

Moving To Hong Kong!

By now, for most of you, this is old news. But we are moving to Hong Kong! We are sad to be leaving our family and friends, but we’re excited for the adventures that await us! Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions. Why Hong Kong? That’s where we really feel like God wants us. Why? We’re not really sure. But we’re pretty sure we will be adopting a little girl (a little older than Magdalena), either from...

Sledding–First Time

This was James’s first time sledding. And I think Magdalena’s too. It’s pretty much Josh’s first time too. The kids loved it. The snow won’t last for long. I’m grateful my kiddos have a daddy who has the flexibility to take advantage of such brief opportunities when they exist. I sure love these...
